Archaeology Day 2024

Can you dig it?! We had so much fun playing in the dirt last year that we’ve decided to do it again! FREE drop-in event for ALL AGES!

What secrets lie beneath the soil of our 200-year-old property?
Join us for a search around the property Spring Hill Historic Home & Underground Railroad Site.

This event is in collaboration with The University of Akron and Massillon Museum.

We welcome our members to an artifact preview night on September 27th at 6 pm. Students from the University of Akron and Spring Hill Archaeologist, Nicole Curlutu, will display and discuss the pieces discovered at last year’s Privy Dig. Some of their findings might surprise you! New members welcome any time!

The next morning we open to the public at 10:00 am for Archaeology Day 2024!

HIGHLIGHTS:

— YOUNG KIDS can enjoy digging and sifting for polished stones and excavate plastic dino skeletons (which they can take home!) They can also help screen dirt from the excavations.
— KIDS, TEENS & ADULTS can help sift dirt from excavation on our property, clean artifacts, and dig in designated areas.
— Metal detectors are welcome but we cannot guarantee digging outside the designated dig sites.
— Purchase food from local food trucks
— View artifacts discovered during our 2023 dig.

**ANY ARTIFACTS DISCOVERED on Spring Hill’s property will remain the property of Spring Hill Historic Home & Underground Railroad Site. The archaeologist who discovers it will have the opportunity to pose with the artifact, and have their name attached to the collection record**

Free community event for all ages, more information coming soon!
